In Waipu village, Country Bake is the kind of cafe that locals keep coming back to. It’s just good food made fresh each day, really decent coffee, and a team that knows how to look after you.
The menu covers the basics well. Breakfasts range from cabinet selections to cooked options, while lunch brings fresh salads, sandwiches and daily baking. Everything’s made in-house, and you can taste the difference. They use Allpress coffee, which means your flat white or long black will be sorted.
The setup works for just about anyone. Inside there’s seating for a quick bite, but the real drawcard is out back; a sheltered courtyard where you can settle in properly. There’s street-side tables too if you’re after some sun. Kids are welcome (there’s even a sandpit to keep them occupied), and well-behaved dogs can join you outside. Wheelchair access is covered, and there’s an onsite bathroom.
Country Bake opens Tuesday to Sunday, 8am to 3pm. You’ll find them at 29 The Centre, pretty much opposite the Waipu petrol station. It’s about 3km off State Highway 1, so an easy detour whether you’re heading north to the Bay of Islands or south to Whangārei (30km or 19 miles). The beaches at Waipu Cove and Langs are only 10 minutes away.
The friendly team is ready behind the counter, serving up quality food and coffee. It’s part of the Country Bake group, which also has a cafe in Ruakaka.

1 Review on “Country Bake Waipū”
It can be hard to find a really good pie these days. Some are full of goop but no meat. Well not here! I just had the best steak pie I’ve had in years. Rich, thick gravy and great big chunks of steak. Will definitely be back next time I’m passing through Waipū!
