Profile
The Northland Medical Museum is one of Whangārei’s more unusual attractions, offering a rare glimpse into the region’s medical past. Tucked within Heritage Park in Maunu, the museum holds an extensive collection of historic medical equipment, documents, and photographs drawn from across Northland.
Inside, you’ll find everything from 19th and 20th century surgical tools and diagnostic devices to dental equipment, nursing uniforms, and old hospital furnishings. The displays highlight the ingenuity of earlier medical practice and show just how much healthcare has changed over time.
The museum is run entirely by volunteers from the Northland Medical Museum Trust. It opens to the public on Heritage Park Live Days and at other times by arrangement. For anyone interested in medical history, local heritage, or vintage technology, it’s well worth a visit.
